FIGHTING FOR GIRLS' EDUCATION

Education is the key to giving women and girls a voice in this world and a vehicle to help them transform our world for the better”

Mariam Khalique, a teacher of student and education activist Malala, delivered a speech in New York in the Unesco general assembly calling for world leaders to ensure every child gets a chance to go to school.

Everybody knows the story of the schoolgirl shot by the Taliban as she was travelling to school in Pakistan after campaigning for girls’ education. Malala is proud of her birthplace but she is not proud of the number of women and girls who are deprived of an education.
Many girls are prevented from going to school because of poverty and conflict. In addition to this, the most common reason for girls not attending to school is cultural. People fear that females will become too independent if they are educated. Instead, parents prefer to marry off girls early, as young as 10. “ A girl’s place is at home”.
Malala’s teacher, Mariam will do her best to transmit her message to all the world leaders: Education gives women the confidence to stand up for their rights and have better opportunities. Helping all go to school also makes a country richer.

EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES TO ATTEND SCHOOL, NO MATER IF THEY ARE BOYS OR GIRLS
