So far we have been practising with these words or expressions
BE ADDICTED TO = be dependent on
If it is followed by a verb, it should go with -ing form
Examples: The child was addicted to video games or the child was addicted to playing video games
THERE IS NO POINT IN = it doesn't make any sense to do something
It is followed by -ing verb
Example: Ms Smith is ill. She won't be coming today. There is no point in waiting for her
WANT = wish
It is followed by to infinitive
Examples: I want to learn more English
Ms Windsor wants us to learn English in order to communicate (
WOULD LIKE = would enjoy/ would wish
It can be followed by a noun or the to infinitive
Examples: I would like some coffee/ I would like to have some coffee
I would like you to invite me for a coffee (
EACH OTHER = one another It means that the action is reciprocal
Example: We have been writing to each other for a long time
USED TO = to talk about a past habit that it doesn't happen now
It is followed by an infinitive
Examples: I used to smoke when I was a teenager (= I don't smoke any longer)
I didn't use to go on holiday with my friends
Did you use to play with dolls when you were a little girl?
BE/GET USED TO = be/ get accustomed to, become familiar with
It is followed by a noun or the -ing form of the verb ( in this expression the word "used" never changes)
Examples: I hate living in England: I will never get used to the rain
Children soon get used to spending much of their free time watching TV
